Some of the country’s domestic airlines are set to resume scheduled flights from Friday following clearance by the Ghana Meteorological Agency.

Most of the airlines have had to ground their aircrafts since last week Friday because of Harmattan winds that limited visibility beyond acceptable levels.

Visibility standard in the aviation industry is five kilometers and hence anything below that means it is not be prudent to fly.

Since last week dusty Harmattan winds kept visibility levels below three kilometers, some analysts say.

Some domestic carriers have had to refund ticket purchases to passengers due to flight cancelations.

Chief Operating Officer at Africa World Airlines, Captain Samuel Thompson, confirms visibility has improved significantly.

“This afternoon we got some good visibilities for Kumasi, and Tamale has also started improving. We are looking at getting much better visibility tomorrow [Friday]. Normally the mornings are not that good, but mid-mornings getting to the afternoon visibility improves,” he said.

He said Africa World Airlines’ 12:30 flight to Kumasi is likely to resume Friday.
