Minister for Education Haruna Iddrisu is in Botswana for a two-day high-level meeting focused on strengthening skills development and regional cooperation in technical and vocational education.
Mr Iddrisu was invited by the Government of Botswana to share Ghana’s experience in implementing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes.
The engagement, running from July 10 to 11, aims to support human capital development through strategic dialogue and collaboration among African nations.
“This visit reflects Ghana’s commitment to promoting skills development across the continent,” Mr Iddrisu said upon arrival. “We believe that sharing our experiences in TVET implementation can support our sister nations in building resilient and future-ready workforces.”
The meeting will be officially opened by the President of Botswana, Duma Gideon Boko. It is bringing together policymakers, educators, and development partners to exchange ideas and explore best practices in technical and vocational education.
During his visit, the minister is expected to highlight Ghana’s progress in TVET reforms. He will outline the government’s efforts to modernise training facilities, increase access to vocational education, and align skills development with industry demands.
“We have made significant progress in aligning TVET with industry needs, expanding access, and investing in modern infrastructure,” Mr Iddrisu said. “Our goal is to equip young people with relevant skills, drive innovation, and create sustainable jobs.”
