Following heavy rains last week that ripped off roofs and destroyed classroom blocks of some schools in the Volta regional capital, Ho, heads of the affected schools are appealing for help from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and philanthropists to fix the damage before school re-opens in May.

According to heads of the affected junior high schools, teaching has become difficult since the destruction caused by the rainstorm.

The heavy downpour occured on Wednesday April 23, 2014.

Hubert Mawuli Yevu-Agbi reports that the Anglican Junior High School, Methodist Junior High School and Nuriya Islamic Schools were some of the affected schools.

He said at the Methodist Junior High School for instance, the entire roof of a classroom block was ripped off, while books and other learning materials are rendered unusable.

The Volta regional NADMO coordinator, Simon Bakah said his outfit is yet to receive a response from the headquarters in Accra.

He indicated that when relief items are sent, he will prioritise schools during distribution.

The heads of the affected schools are also calling on philanthropists for help.
