The Ministry of Health has given up to Friday March 21, 2014 to take a final decision on the controversial missing baby saga that has rocked the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
The ministry is currently awaiting a report on the issue from the Nurses and Midwife Council as well as that from the Medical and Dental Council, the regulatory body that oversees the conduct of the practitioners.
The health sector has been in the news for weeks following the mysterious disappearance of five babies at KATH who were believed to have been born dead.
The mother of one the babies Suwaiba Abdul insists on having her baby, even if the baby dead, so she can bury her according to Islamic traditions.
The hospital has been unable to produce the baby, a controversy that has led to the attack on some doctors and nurses by persons said to be related to Suwaiba, and a subsequent withdrawal of services by doctors for about seven days.
The Ministry of Health intervened in the matter and issued a report after an investigation. The report cited two personnel, a doctor and a nurse, who were believed to have been negligent in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Officials at KATH who were not impressed with the report by the Ministry conducted their own independent investigation and issued a report to the Ministry.
Health Minister Sherry Aryittey told Myjoyonline.com they have received the report but are awaiting two other reports in order to take a final decision on the matter.
"We are on top of the issue," she assured, adding, "in the end we will take a decision that everybody will be happy with."
