The Ghana Universal Access to Health Care Campaign, a health NGO, has reminded government to take immediate steps to fulfilling campaign promises on health made during the 2012 elections.
In a statement released and signed by Sidua Hor, National Campaign Coordinator, to mark exactly six months since the December Elections were held, the NGO welcomed the many promises made on health and applauded government’s commitment towards attaining a universal health care delivery to all Ghanaians but said steps must be taken to attain those promises.
The statement chronicled the many health promises made as part of the Better Ghana Agenda campaign and questioned government on the steps being taken to achieve those promises.
“The government promised to double the number of CHPS compounds from about 1,600 to about 3,200 to meet the needs of under-served communities,” the statement said and remarked that the NGO is yet to see specific action done in that direction.
On the promise by government to increase resources for the training of medical doctors in order to reduce the patient-doctor ratio and the long waiting times in our hospitals, the NGO commended government for allocating GH¢11.3 million to Ghanaian medical trainee program in Cuba but demanded to know, among other things how many doctors will be trained with that amount.
The NGO said they are yet to see specific action on government promise to establish Regional Hospitals in the Eastern Region at Koforidua and the Upper East Region at Bolgatanga; and complete the Regional hospital project in Wa, Upper West Region.
The statement asked government to state which year it is planning to start the project.
