An ingenious free kick from the acutest of angles by Accra Hearts of Oak’s Bernard Don Bortey was all the league champions required to topple visiting Zaytuna FC in their Onetouch Premiership game at the Ohene Djan Stadium.
Hearts had laboured all through for a goal and had to wait till the 78th minutes to ride on Bortey’s free-kick that was taken from the left flank to pluck all the points on a rainy afternoon.
With revenge on the minds of the Phobians, who lost their last game 1-2 to the visitors, their biggest obstacle on the day was how to overcome the rage of vengeance and piece together a game that could produce results.
The Hearts of Oak engine room consisting of Kwaku Essien and creative Kofi Abanga failed to deliver precise passes to their attackers and rather conceded possession easily to their opponents, leaving their attack impotent.
Zaytuna’s Nicholas Coffie will forever have himself to blame for letting Hearts off the hook on three minutes after he unbelievably headed wide a fine chance with the homers goalkeeper Saani Mohammed committed.
Hearts were to react after surviving yet another invasion, which saw rasta-haired Daniel Larbi Koomson getting close to scoring to put his side ahead and Ishmael Addo was unlucky not to have gotten his first goal of the season after he slipped from close range.
With barely no bright chances, the game came alive after Bortey’s goal with both teams intensifying the fight for another goal that could have changed the complexion of the duel.
