Hearts of Oak board member, Vincent Sowah Odotei, has revealed that the club has ambitions of appointing a coach like the legendary South African manager, Pitso Mosimane.
The Phobians are without a substantive coach and have worked with eight coaches in the last three years, including interim coaches.
His promise comes on the back of comments made by former coach, Martin Koopman, who accused the club’s board of influencing player selection.
The former La Dadekotopon MP explained that the club is unable to appoint high-profile coaches because of financial constraints.
“Those of us in charge of Hearts of Oak now, we want to bring someone like Pitso Mosimane. Can we afford him? Do you know how much he was being paid at Al Ahly?” Odotei told Asempa FM.
“The point I am trying to make his that, when appointing a coach, a lot of considerations come into play.
“If the fans are patient with us a bit, we believe we will get to a stage where we can attract world class coaches.”
Eight coaches in three years
Edward Nii Odoom started the 2020/21 season before he was demoted to the junior team and was replaced by Serb Kosta Papic, who was also subsequently removed the same season.
Samuel Nii Noi then took charge on interim basis for a brief spell before Samuel Boadu was appointed half way through the season and won Hearts of Oak the league.
After a season-and-a-half, Boadu was replaced by another Serb, Slavko Matic, at the start of the 2022/23 season.
Matic was also sacked half way through the season, with David Ocloo taking charge of the remainder.
At the start of the ongoing 2023/24 season, Hearts of Oak appointed Martin Koopman on a three-year deal before he was fired ten games into the season.
Abdul Rahim Bashiru is now in charge on interim basis, and will lead them into this weekend’s Super Clash against Asante Kotoko.
