A Patron of Accra Hearts of Oak, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has urged the Board of Directors of the club to be guided by tradition in the appointment of a new Chief Executive.
Responding to questions about the search for a new Chief Executive and the qualities that should define the search, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe who is Ghana's ambassador to Serbia, said the top post cannot be compromised for just commercial or financial considerations.
"As a patron of Hearts, I will like to state clearly that the chairmanship of the Premier Club of Ghana is not a competition just for commercial purposes.
"Accra Hearts of Oak is an entire institution with its own tradition. Therefore, anybody who wants to lead the club must be somebody who is baptised in that tradition.
"That baptism does not take a year or two, but takes a long time, and could be a whole life time.
"Anybody who is not baptised in that tradition is obviously out," Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe told the Graphic Sports in an interview.
The Hearts top management post has fallen vacant following the enstoolment of Mr. Thomas Okine as a chief of Gbese in Accra.
Mr Okine, considered a true example of a traditional Hearts man, achieved an impressive record with the club, winning three league titles, the maiden edition of the CAF Confederation Cup at the expense of Asante Kotoko, as well as a few minor trophies on the local scene.
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, himself a former Hearts Chairman well remembered for his revolution that gave birth to the famous 'Musical Youth' in the late 1980s, said the tradition cannot be broken now.
"This is a heritage that has survived since 1911 and we have a mandate to protect it."
