There is heavy security presence at the forecourt of the Supreme Court (SC) ahead of its sitting to consider contempt case of two Montie FM panelists and others, Joynews has gathered
The place, unusually, is manned by both police and military personnel who are heavily armed.
The main road leading to the court complex is dotted with three road blocks. Armour vehicles and police crowd control team are also well positioned to handle any eventuality.
The SC will early today determine the fate of the two panelists, Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn and the host of the programme on which they made the comment, Salifu Maase also known as ‘Mugabe’.
The two allegedly supported by the host threatened to murder justices of the court if their ruling on a case challenging the electoral roll brought by a former National Youth Organiser of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan and Evans Nimako does not favour the Electoral Commission (EC).
The comment was made on the eve the nation was marking the 34th Anniversary of the murder of three High Court judges by some operatives of the erstwhile Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC).
An earlier sitting which was called last week was nearly marred by violence with ardent followers of Montie FM openly attacking journalist from Multimedia and other radio stations.
Not even the presence of the police was enough to guarantee the safety of the journalists.
To stall the incidents of last week, the police have mapped out a new strategy to contain the crowd in the event of mishap.
