Registrar of Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University, Vitus Songotuah has revealed that the Vice-Chancellor of the university will soon start using the Mercedes Benz bought by the former Rector.
The vehicle was purchased with state funds in 2018 by the former Rector of the University, Professor Emmanuel Marfo-Owusu at a cost of GH₵503,000 without approval from the Governing Council.
Upon hearing the news, some angry lecturers at the University chased Prof Emmanuel Marfo-Owusu out of the campus with clubs and stones.
Professor Emmanuel Marfo-Owusu was then suspended by the Governing Council of the University and the Benz seized after several allegations of corruption and financial malfeasance were leveled against him by some staff of the institution.
Speaking to JoyNews' Rafiq Salam, the Registrar explained that there will be no justification to leave the vehicle to rot and waste away, hence the decision to allocate it to the new Vice-Chancellor, Elias N. K. Sowley .
"The Benz is there, it's for the Institution and now that we have a new Vice-Chancellor on the ground, it will be made available for his use, from now onwards.
"Once it has been packed for a while we would have to work on it, refurbish it and make it available for use. It's a new era and we hope to leave the past behind and forge ahead for the good of the University," he said.
Elias N. K. Sowley has meanwhile, assured the Institution that he would do his maximum best to ensure the potential of the University is realised.
"There are many good things about this institution and I can see great potential for it, I believe that if we do the right thing, the Institution will function the way it should," the Vice-Chancellor said.
