The Ho Teaching Hospital has taken its “Save a Heart, Save a Life” campaign to establish a cardiothoracic centre to the streets of the Volta Regional capital.
The initiative is geared towards raising funds and creating awareness of the project, which seeks to end the travelling of cardiovascular patients to Accra to seek treatment.
The lack of a cardiothoracic centre, which impedes health care delivery in the Volta Region, influenced a decision to establish the centre.
However, the centre only provides consultation services and refers patients to the Korlebu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
Management, therefore, earmarked several activities to raise $3.2 million to furnish the centre with basic medical equipment under its “Save a Heart, Save a Life” Campaign.
As part of the campaign, some staff embarked on a float in the regional capital of Ho to create awareness and solicit the public's support towards the project.
The float, which processed through the principal streets of Ho, saw the staff explaining to residents the importance of establishing a cardio centre in the Volta Region.
The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ho Teaching Hospital, Dr John Tampouri, indicated that the hospital with the Human Resources available lacks the basic equipment to deliver the needed healthcare.
He, therefore, urged the public to contribute towards the project to ensure the hospital becomes a one-stop centre for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
