New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Director at the Office of the Party’s Flagbearer, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, says the allegations surrounding his arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) have caused significant damage to his reputation and personal life.

Mr. Aboagye, who described the situation as painful, said he feels “defamed and maligned” following EOCO’s public statement linking him to an alleged GH¢55 million misappropriation during his tenure as Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show on Tuesday, July 21, Mr. Aboagye said his wife had even packed her bags due to the emotional toll the allegations had placed on the family.

“I have been defamed and maligned. I am sad. My wife has even packed her bags. Someone even said I have three wives. They have done me a lot of disservice,” he said.

Mr. Aboagye insisted that he fully cooperated with EOCO throughout its investigations and was surprised when he was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport.

According to him, he was unaware that some individuals had gathered outside EOCO’s office to protest his arrest until he was being taken to his residence for a search.

“I was cooperating with EOCO through every step. I didn’t even know people were outside protesting. It was when they were moving me to go and search my house that I saw the crowd outside. I was shocked,” he said.

He also noted that he had no issue with political opponents commenting on his arrest, describing such reactions as part of normal political discourse, but took exception to EOCO’s official communication on the matter.

“My problem is with their official statement after my arrest. In all my engagements with them, there was no GH¢55 million I was being investigated on,” he stated.

Mr. Aboagye claimed that the figures discussed during his interactions with EOCO were far lower, involving issues relating to procurement and consultancy services.

He questioned why EOCO would announce a GH¢55 million figure if the issues under investigation were different, saying the development had unfairly damaged his image.

“It was GH¢9 million and GH¢5,000. GH¢5.2 million in terms of procurement — all of that are processes. But where from the GH¢55 million? The organisation didn’t even have such an amount,” he argued.

“How do you discuss GH¢5.2 million consultancy work with me and put out a statement that you are investigating me for GH¢55 million? What would you get for doing that?” he asked.

The NPP communicator further alleged that some of the claims against him were being pushed by a former colleague whom he accused of harbouring a personal vendetta against him.

“Some of these things are not EOCO; it’s from my successor who has a personal vendetta against me. I even got him his permanent job. He was happy and said God bless me,” he alleged.

Mr. Aboagye was arrested by EOCO officials at the Kotoka International Airport on July 12, 2026, and was later released on July 14 after meeting his GH¢50 million bail conditions.

EOCO has said the arrest forms part of investigations into alleged financial irregularities involving about GH¢55 million during Mr. Aboagye’s tenure as Executive Secretary of the IMCCoD.
