Former Deputy Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has denied claims that he was part of a young crop of politicians ‘recruited’ to verbally abuse former President J.J. Rawlings.
According to him, there is no truth to those claims, and explains that his actions were borne out of the need to “correct misimpressions created about the late President Mills during his tenure.”
“My contribution to any such effort was based purely on principle, conviction and loyalty to the then President of Ghana and leader of the NDC,” he said in a press statement.
In his recently launched book, ‘Working with Rawlings’, the former Local Government Minister revealed that some young politicians were engaged to get back at the former President to stop him from constantly attacking the late President Mills.
“Any time former President Rawlings attacked or insulted President Mills publicly, one of the younger members of the party would take him on publicly not with insults but logic.”
According to Prof. Ahwoi, these were the younger party members christened “babies with sharp teeth” by Mr Rawlings.
Mr Ofosu, however, denies being ‘engaged’ to get back at the former President.
“I have never required prompting or goading to speak about what I believe to be right or wrong,” he said.
He added that, “All my contributions in the said matter were devoid of insults or aspersions as claimed by the media reports. It is worth noting that the book in question speaks about our resort to logic rather than insults.”
He has, therefore, called on the general public to treat with contempt any claim that he was part of “a grand design to malign anyone for criticising President Mills.”
