Ghanaian musician, Belinda Ekua Amoah, stage-named Mzbel has spoken about her entrepreneurial life in addition to her career as a singer.
According to the singer, she owns four businesses in Ghana namely; Bel Jam Records which is a record label, Bel Eye Media for TV production, Bel Kids Playground for children to have fun and Bela’s Pub for food and relaxation.
“I have Bela’ Pub, I have Bel Kids Playground, I have Bel Jam Records, and I have Bel Eye Media. So the businesses are four”, she indicated.
Speaking on Joy Prime’s Celebiz TV program, she revealed that all these businesses are operating without a hitch except for the Bel Jam Records which is temporarily on hold due to the negative attitudes of some Ghanaian artists.
‘For the artist, they come in very humble, and once they do a couple of interviews, they feel like they know it all already and then they don’t listen to you. Don’t do this, they say okay, the next minute, they are doing it. And because they are not very well-known, you get into trouble. So there is a hold on Bel Jam Records”, she explained.
Nonetheless, the musician clarified that she continues to offer free recording assistance to artists in her studio. Interestingly, she even pays for some of their post-recording transportation in addition to providing them with free meals and beverages.
Mzbel elaborated that while offering this free service, if any artist feels uncomfortable working with her engineers, they are allowed to bring in their own.
She also promotes their contents on her social media handles and even gives them an opportunity to accompany her on media tour.
‘I have a recording studio so I give it to people to record for free, and if they come around and they need food, they get free food and free drinks and they record. Transportation, once in a while I’ll support. If you don’t like my resident engineer and you have your own engineer you want to bring too, that’s fine. And I can share on my pages for you. If I am going on a radio tour and you want to come with me, you can come with me but you won’t be under my record label, so that’s what I’m doing now”, she stated.
Speaking about how she juggles business with family life, she admitted that it hasn’t been easy especially being a mother, however, the advancement of technology has eased this burden because she can now use her phone to track her son's whereabouts anytime she's away from home.
The musician finally disclosed that in addition to these businesses, she engages in Corporate Social Responsibility through her Bel Care Foundation, which has been established to help underprivileged children, particularly by making donations to orphanages.
