Former President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Abraham Kotei Neequaye, has explained that his respect for President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was a key factor in his decision to step down.
Neequaye initially tendered his resignation via WhatsApp on Wednesday, citing personal reasons. However, during a press conference on Monday, June 30, 2025, he chose to go deeper—laying bare his reasons with passion and conviction.
“I cannot fight my own government and my own party,” Neequaye declared.
He did not hold back, issuing a stern warning to the incoming GBA leadership:
“The NSA and the Ministry have no right to sideline the GBA. If you allow it, you're creating a dangerous precedent that will haunt the sport,” he cautioned.
Neequaye officially passed the torch to 2nd Vice President Roger Barnor, who now steps in as the new President of the Ghana Boxing Authority. His final words weren’t just a resignation—they were a rallying cry to protect the independence of Ghana boxing.
