Former Black Stars winger Laryea Kingston has revealed that he was denied his six-month salary and bonuses after signing with Al-Ittihad Club in Libya.
The Youth Coach at Right to Dream Academy, his early professional football career when this unfortunate incident happened.
According to Laryea, his professional club team, Olympics, transferred him to Al-Ittihad Club in Libya in 2000 after signing a contract with the club.
After playing for the club for six months, he added that the club refused to pay him his accumulated salary and other bonuses.
"Before Hearts of Oak came in, Olympics transferred me to Libya, but the contract wasn't successful. I had to run away from the contact because the punishment was too much. "Akwantuo" is not easy.
"I signed a contract with Al-Ittihad Club in Libya, I signed three years, my salary and everything for six months I did not receive anything and I was playing for them," he spoke on Joy PM Personality Profile.
Explaining his ordeal, the Right to Dream Academy Coach said at the midst of it all, he was not bothered about the money owed him; instead, his objective was to return to Ghana to further his football career.
"For me, all I want is to come back to Ghana, re-launch my career because I realized that place would not help me, and I want to play football to the top, so all I want is to come out of the contract and continue my career.
"I'm not thinking about the money; it's a lot of money, but I know if I start playing, I would earn a lot than what I'm chasing over there," he said.
Kingston later moved back to Ghana and trained with Accra Hearts of Oak for one year before the club officially signed.
Before he was signed, the club was offering him monthly salary and bonuses while he trained with them and travelled to tournaments with the club.
Laryea retired from professional football in 2013 but last played for the national team in 2011.
Currently, he is a youth (Under 18) coach at Right to Dream Academy.
