Ghana Football Association President, Kwasi Nyantakyi, wants to lead a campaign by the Confederation of African Football, CAF to deal with the issue of “Club versus Country” over the release of players for the African cup of nations.Ahead of next January’s African cup of nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast and Manchester City defender Kolo Toure has revealed that European clubs, especially the ones in the English premier league discriminate against African players who accept to play for their National teams at the Cup of Nations.Kwasi Nyantakyi who doubles as a CAF Executive member has condemned the actions of these European clubs and is prepared to lead a campaign to redress this issue.“It’s a very straight forward matter and I will personally take it up before the African Nations cup. I will draw the attention of the CAF president and the general secretary to deal with this issue so that the release of players will not be subjected to any unnecessary and illegal impediments”. Nyantakyi told JOY SportsHe added that, no African country must suffer unduly just because their players are playing in Europe. In a related development, Manchester City are seeking any evidence, whether a tape recording or a transcript, of the highly contentious interview allegedly given by Kolo Toure suggesting discrimination against African footballers in English football.City have been told that there might be a tape of the interview, and will explore their options (which could include action against the player) once they are able to get hold of it.
