Beleaguered communication director Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings (FONKAR), Dela Coffie, has issued a stern warning to some members of the group who have threatened to scupper the chances of the ruling NDC in the 2012 general elections to desist or be exposed.
According to Coffie, he will no longer be part of any attempt by FONKAR to make the Mills-led administration unpopular ahead of elections next year.
“I am sending a warning signal that Dela Coffie is not a small fish; I am not going to be a signatory with that kind of agenda,” he added.
Operations Director of FONKAR, Ernest Owusu Bempah had declared that the group would play a crucial role in the 2012 general elections to ensure that the NDC loses elections.
He revealed that FONKAR had in its possession damning information which when released would sink the ruling government in 2012.
FONKAR in a statement issued in Accra over the weekend accused Dela Coffie of being a spy for National Security Coordinator, Col. (retd) Larry Gbevlo Lartey as well as being in bed with presidential aides Koku Anyidoho and Nii Lantey Vanderpuye.
The group also threatened to compel him to explain his motive for staying away from activities of the group.
But Dela Coffie on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, debunked the allegations, describing them as baseless.
He said members of the group have turned against him because he refused to be part of their evil ploy against the ruling party.
He explained that some unknown persons who did not have the interest of the NDC at heart were behind such machinations to get him out of the group because he was against such an evil ploy.
Dela Coffie observed that the core objective of FONKAR is to defend the legacy of the party’s founder, ex-President Jerry John Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings and not to cause division in the NDC.
He noted that FONKAR and NDC are not at war and hence could not fathom why members of the group would want to sabotage the ruling party.
Dela Coffie stated that FONKAR being an appendage of the NDC should be seen working for the party after the Sunyani Congress and not the other way round.
The FONKAR scribe advised committed members of the group to remain resolute and promote the NDC agenda to retain power in 2012.
Dela Coffie also urged President J.E.A. Mills to extend a hand of friendship to the Rawlingses for a united NDC in 2012.
