Police officers who spend their time and energies checking driving licenses and other vehicle documents instead of strictly enforcing road traffic regulations will face severe sanctions.That is the warning from the Inspector General of Police, Paul Tawiah Quaye.This is in line with his resolve to enforce discipline and redeem the sinking image of the service.The IGP who is on a national tour was addressing personnel at Wa.Joy News Upper West correspondent, Rafik Salam reported the IGP as saying he will not renege on his duty in cleanse the service from bad deeds of some officials.“I want to caution all and sundry that we will not renege on our uncompromising commitment to rid the service of all those who willfully engage themselves in activities that bring dishonor to the service but then in a similar vain those dedicated personnel devoted to the duties that they are performing who in the course of the performance of their work commit genuine errors, they shall receive support of the administration and this I assure you,” the IGP said.He also expressed regrets with the increasing spate of fatal accidents on the roads which he said were unacceptable.“Most of the casualties in this region are as a result of recklessness and human errors committed by motor cycle riders," he stated.The IGP who was in the Northern region yesterday bemoaned poor quality detective work in spite of huge investments.He blamed under performing detectives for the many unresolved cases, some of which have been pending for many years.
