Commissioner of Police (COP) George Alex Mensah did not let today’s hearing end without dropping another bombshell allegation during his testimony.

The police officer was testifying as part of a fact-finding mission by the Parliamentary committee over a leaked recording that suggested a conspiracy to remove the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

Day 3’s sitting was a mixed bag of tension, drama and surprises.

He even reiterated his position that the tape under discussion may have been doctored.

The committee, satisfied with the day’s answers so far, decided to discharge him, but not before inquiring if he could help the committee get a copy of what he believes was the authentic audio clip of the conversation.

The committee did not expect the response that would follow.

COP Mensah alleged that his “intel suggests that what was used to tape the conversation was done by the current IGP.”

According to him, George Akuffo Dampare superintended the leaking of the tape as well.

“He sent some people to do it, after which he went for it. So the tape, from my intel, is with the IGP, and he caused it to be leaked. So if this committee wants the tape, the right person to call before this committee is the Inspector General of Police,” he said.

COP Mensah is a former Director-General, Technical, of the Ghana Police Service.

The third witness, Supt George Asare is expected to take the stand after the Commissioner of Police.
