The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Alhassan, will inaugurate the Police Visibility Office in Kumasi later Wednesday August 14.
The newly introduced department under the Police service is being rolled out nationwide as part of reforms to improve the security situation in the country.
Police Director of Public Affairs, DSP Cephas Arthur, has described the department as crucial in modern Policing.
"Because it is a department on its own, independent of CID [Criminal Investigation Department]...and MTTU [Motor Traffic and Transport Unit] it will have its own Headquarters to assist the Police", said DSP Arthur.
The Police Public Affairs Director also said the Police Visibility Office will enhance the Police work in general.
The inauguration of the department in Kumasi could be part of a decision by security chiefs to beef up security, intensify police/military patrols, strengthen intelligence gathering and restrict motorbike riding in the city.
Following the spate of violent crimes in the city, President John Dramani Mahama convened a meeting of national security chiefs, the Ashanti Regional commanders of the security services and the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Eric Opoku, to address the unrest.
After the meeting, the security chiefs assured residents of Kumasi that measures had been instituted to deal with the security challenges which saw three people killed in a month.
