The first person so far to declare his intention to run for the presidency as an independent candidate has hinted the possibility of renegotiating Ghana’s foreign contracts.  

Kwame Asiedu Walker said "it will not be far-fetched as most of them have breached or whatever the agreements are they have not met the terms and conditions yet".

He argued that it would not be a recipe for chaos since “it is about business, strictly business, we are not seizing anybody’s company. We are not nationalizing any of those companies.”

Speaking on JOYNEWS The Pulse programme Tuesday, he added, “the threshold of business is for the fact that you have the right to renegotiate depending on marked conditions.”

The presidential candidate for the United 1 Ghana Movement who stormed the JOY studios with an army of bodyguards said if voted to power his government will consider a regionalization policy.

This policy he said will address poverty in many of the Regions across the country arguing that it is a matter of identifying what those regions have in terms of natural resources and use it to advantage.

Citing Northern Ghana, he said, “there are several iron ore deposits, in Ghana we don’t produce steel, we don’t even have iron ore smelting plants and for what they do at Tema, they do the recycling. We can develop all those areas.”    

With four months to go for elections, Mr Walker charged “Ghanaians to be bold and step forward and say we can do it."

He said United 1 Ghana Movement was formed in the last three years and has garnered a lot of support across the country and penetrated every constituency before officially coming out now.

According to him, the foundation has firmly been built for what he described as “not a party but a movement” with a lot of grassroots support.

However, regarding having Members of Parliament (MPs) to support run his government, he said "this is the reason why we are supporting all independent candidates across the board, all of them. We are targeting over a 100 of them...over 120 I believe."

He claims his party has a lot of crossovers from the two main parties; the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) and independent parties as well whom he said have tried severally to court him to their camp. 

"We have several supporters from both parties who are disgruntled with what is happening in their parties," he said. 

He slammed the in-fighting in the two main parties who are likely to plunge the country into civil war and Ghanaians should not allow that to happen. 

Mr Walker said he is here to make history and charged like-minded people to follow him give Ghana the much-needed change.
