The race for the 2017-18 Ghana Premier League Golden Boot is well and truly on, with three players leading the way but can they go all the way to succeed last season winner Hans Kwofie? The former AshGold ace bagged 17 goals including four on the final day.
Although the likes of Yahaya Mohammed, Joseph Esso and Aminu Mohammed staked an early claim for the individual accolade, it appears their challenge is fizzling out.
This is because the trio of William Opoku Mensah, Hafiz Konkoni and Zuberu Sharani have recovered from the early slump and now occupy the top spot with four goals after eight games.
Opoku, a striker for Karela United, was nowhere to be found on the list before week 8. But he is now in pole position to win the award after hitting a hat-trick against no other side than Hearts of Oak.

Zuberu of Dreams FC has been in stunning form and it is fair that he is part of the best three. The forward struck a sensational finish in his side’s 1-0 win over Liberty to claim his spot at the top.
For Konkoni, he is relatively unknown but the least you expect, he punishes you. His goals have come in handy for the struggling Bechem United and they will hope he remains consistent – something they have been lacking since the departure of Augustine Okrah (top scorer in 2014/15 season) and Abednego Tetteh(who bagged 12 goals in 2016).
However, it is worth noting there are outstanding games which could have implications on the list.
