The Institute of Directors is pushing for a legislation to enable the training and certification of directors on boards of both public and private institutions.
According to the president of the institute, Rockson Dogbegah, the legislation has become necessary to help sanitize and streamline activities of directors on various boards.
He said the recent turmoil in the banking sector has brought to the fore, the essence of sound corporate governance and leadership hence the need for certification.
Mr Dogbegah was speaking to JoyBusiness on the sidelines of the launch of the maiden Directors week celebrations.
“We have a situation in Ghana where most people that serve on public boards do not have the appropriate knowledge nor certification. So things are taking for granted the LI will, therefore, come in to regulate that space to ensure that for you to be appointed on a board you have the right training and that you are certified and that will add value to our leadership,” he said.
He added that the institute is poised to offer necessary support to individuals and institutions to help build up the much-needed capacity for sound corporate governance across the economy.
This year’s Directors Week celebration is under the theme 'Stimulating and sustaining the culture of sound Corporate Governance.'
The week celebration will run from the 14th to 22nd November 2018 and will be attended by over five hundred public and private sector actors in governance and leadership positions.
