The President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-GH), Engr. Wonder Davor, accompanied by the First Vice President, Engr. Prof. Humphrey Danso, and the Secretary of the Civil Engineering Division, Dr. Timothy Adu-Gyamfi, joined the Faculty of Built and Natural Environment of the Ho Technical University to commemorate the Faculty Week celebrations on July 20, 2026.

The event was officially launched under the theme: “Building Sustainable Communities Through Innovation, Excellence and Collaboration.”

Delivering the keynote address, the President of IET-GH, Engr. Wonder Davor, underscored the importance of innovation, collaboration, and sustainability in addressing contemporary engineering and societal challenges.

He encouraged students to go beyond the knowledge acquired through their academic programmes by pursuing continuous professional development, practical skills, and industry exposure.

According to him, these additional competencies will distinguish them from their peers and provide a competitive advantage in the job market.

He further encouraged the students to join the IET-GH Student Chapter to enable them to benefit from free Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes, networking opportunities, mentorship, and other professional development initiatives offered by the Institution.

The Vice-Chancellor of Ho Technical University, Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga, expressed his appreciation for the participation of IET-GH and commended the Institution for its commitment to engineering education and professional development.

He also emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among professionals, academia, industry, and other stakeholders to build sustainable communities for the benefit of present and future generations.

The 1st Vice President of IET-GH, Engr Prof. Humphrey Danso, who doubles as the Civil Engineering Division chairman, in his address explained the structure of IET-GH, the types of membership and how to become a member. He encouraged members to take a form and join before it’s too late.

The event was attended by the Volta Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, Mr. Joseph Freeman Tetteh; a representative of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Ho municipal manager of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Mr. Saviour Dela Amakpa; the Dean of the Faculty of Built and Natural Environment, Professor Harrison George Coffie; Chairman of the Faculty Build and Natural Environment Week Planning Committee, Dr. Peter Agbaxode; faculty members, students, and other distinguished guests.

Activities marking the launch included a ceremonial Guard of Honour mounted in honour of the invited guests, as well as exhibitions showcasing innovative models and projects designed by students of the Faculty.

The programme culminated in the presentation of a Citation of Honour to the President of IET-GH, Engr. Wonder Davor, in recognition of his outstanding commitment to engineering excellence, leadership, and unwavering dedication to professionalism and the advancement of the engineering profession in Ghana.
