FC Samartex Head Coach, Nurudeen Amadu, is wary of integrating new signings into his team ahead of the start of their campaign in the 2024/25 CAF Champions League.
Key players who led the club to their surprise Ghana Premier League title win last season have left for greener pastures abroad.
Samartex's top scorer last season, Evans Osei Wusu, who scored 11 goals, has been sidelined with an injury. Captain Emmanuel Keyekeh, named Best Player in the Ghana League at the recent Ghana Football Awards, has also departed.
The Timber Giants have since made several signings, including Lord Adabo and Baba Kushibo, both from RTU. However, Amadu is concerned about how these new players will adjust to their new environment.
“We have lost some very key players. You can talk about Evans Owusu through injury, Daudu Seidu Yussif to APL, and then Keyekeh, who were very, very instrumental in our qualification,” he told Joy Sports.
“We have made some new signings, but one thing is signing the players and another is whether they will be able to adapt easily to team play.
“That is what we are praying for: that they should be able to adapt to a new environment, new situations, new tactical dispensations, and what are new.”
The first and second leg matches between Samartex and Victoria Unite in the first preliminary round are scheduled to take place between August 16 and 25, 2024.
Nurudeen Amadu's side will travel to Cameroon for the first leg before returning home for the second leg.
