The Interior Minister Mark Woyongo has instructed heads of Security Agencies to prepare for likely fallouts or untoward situation that may arise as a result of elections in neighbouring West African countries, especially Nigeria. 

Mr. Woyongo said the security officials must leave no stone unturned to ensure the peace of the nation is preserved.

He urged the officers, especially Immigration Service to be extra vigilant in manning the country's eastern border ahead of the polls in Nigeria and other West African countries.

According to the minister, Ghana is the most likely destination for people in neighbouring countries especially Nigeria because of the convenience of a common language, English.

The minister who is paying a two-day working visit to the Volta region gave the instruction in Ho when he met heads of security agencies in the Volta Region.

Mark Woyongo reiterated that any fallouts during elections in Nigeria especially would have implications for Ghana and that the security agencies must be ready to deal with any such mishaps. 

"We need to prepare. We need to put our ears on the ground. We need to be vigilant," he said.

As part of his tour of the region, the minister has also visited Nkonya and Alavanyo to meet with the security agencies who are keeping the peace in the area.

He also met with the chiefs of the two feuding towns to explore possible ways of finding a lasting solution to the conflict.

Nkonya and Alavanya have been fighting over land for the past 91 years.
