Chairman of the New Patriotic Party Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey has admonished all candidates in the party's constituency, regional and national executive elections to wage clean and decent campaigns.
Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey, who is also seeking re-election is not happy with what he referred to as "dirty tactics" by some candidates ahead of the elections.
Campaigning has begun in earnest as party members jostle for leadership positions at various levels of the opposition party.
The contest for the General Secretary, Chairman and flagbearer positions undoubtedly has been keen and dogged by allegations of corruption and misappropriation of funds and other party property.
Four candidates- incumbent Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, Former Presidential Press Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, former Deputy Interior Minister, and Captain (Retd.) Nkrabeah Effa-Darteh are vying for the General Secretary position position.
For the Chairmanship position, three people have so far made public their intention to contest-incumbent Jake Obetsebi Lamptey. They are Stephen Ntim, Fred Oware and Paul Afoko.
It is not clear yet how many candidates will vie for the flagbearership position, even though Nana Akufo-Addo, Isaac Osei, Kofi Konadu Apraku and Alan Kyerematen are all expected to declare their intentions.
Jake Obestebi Lamptey told Joy News it is only a clean campaign that can maintain unity in the party after the polls.
Describing some of the allegations as "downright lies" Mr Lamptey said you cannot falsely accuse somebody of misappropriating funds during elections and expect that person to extend a hand of friendship to you after the election.
The elections are scheduled for March this year.
