Prophet Nana Kofi Yirenkyi popularly known as Jesus OneTouch has been acquitted and discharge by an Accra high court after being slapped with a 10-year jail term in hard labour by an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defiling his ten year old daughter.
Trial judge, Justice E.K. Dzakpasu said, evidence provided by ACP Dr. Samuel Amo-Mensah, an obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Police Hospital was explicit enough and very detailed to discharge the accused.
According to the doctor’s report, even though the victims hymen had been broken, her vulva were still intact, an indication there was no penile penetration by the accused. “And even if there was an indication of penetration it could only have happened with an object of about one meter in size which was about the size of the victim’s vagina”.
The judge also stated, it was very wrong for the prosecution to rely solely on the evidence provided in court by the victim without further investigations.
The prosecution according to the judge failed to investigate the victim’s claim that the accused person sexually abused her on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, when the accused stated emphatically in court that on the said dates, he usually woke up at dawn to preach on radio programmes and as such could not be at home to commit the said crimes.
The judge also indicated the fact that the accused person pleaded for an out-of-court settlement when interrogated at the police station did not mean an admission of guilt.
The judge said the evidence provided in court by the prosecution raises serious doubt and had a lot of disparity that was not thoroughly investigated.
Counsel for Prophet Nana Kofi Yirenkyi, Kwabena Adumako Acheampong hailed the judge’s ruling and indicated “today is a great day for the rule of law to prevail in this country”
Joy News TV correspondent Eric Curtis Howard who was in court reported that even though very few supporters of Jesus OneTouch were in court, they could not hold back their tears after learning of the judge’s ruling.
Some of them who spoke to the news team said, they were happy that the law had finally taken its course and that their pastor and friend had been set free.
