The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party has challenged the prudence of the selection Prof. Mills for the highest honours of the land.
Mr. John Buadu argued the moribund economy left by the former vice president as head of the economic management team did not deserve an award.
President Kufuor nominated Prof. Mills as one of about 158 people slated to receive the award as part of the Republic Day celebrations.
He will be decorated with the highest honour of Order of the Star of Ghana, Companion Division.
But Mr. Boadu says during Prof. Mills’ vice presidency there were serious human rights violation and he did nothing to save the situation.
In his view the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress did not deserve the award.
But the campaign team of Prof. Mills has hit back at the NPP Youth Leader describing his comments as unfortunate.
In a statement signed by Communication Director of the campaign team, Mr. Koku Anyidoho said the economy presided over by Prof Mills was impressive.
Speaking to Joy News, the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia said Mr. Buadu’s comments did not warrant his comment.
He said Mr. Anyidoho had no business responding to them.
