Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Abdul–Rashid Pelpuo, has outlined key commitments made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, to revive the cotton industry and address other crucial industries in the Northern Region.
According to him, the flagbearer’s pledge to revive the cotton industry in the North aligns with the vision of a 24-hour economy.
Speaking during the NDC 2024 official campaign launch in Tamale on July 27, he said, “The northern people who are involved in this sector will get jobs. It will reduce poverty. It will create opportunities for us to show commitment to what we believe and what we can do to better our lives.”
The MP stated that the flagbearer has promised to tackle water issues in Tamale which is part of his vision to develop the region.
According to him, the former president has committed to expanding the Tamale water project to bring an end to the current water crisis.
In addition, Mr Pelpuo stated that Mr Mahama has also pledged to support entrepreneurship in the Northern Region.
“He also suggests and he is committing to us, that entrepreneurs will be developed in the Northern Region to help young people get jobs. He will ensure that he provides money from Exim Bank to all of you who are willing to go into entrepreneurship to develop on your own".
The Wa Central MP also revealed that Mr Mahama intends to establish a new modern abattoir in the Northern Region.
He stressed that the abattoir will provide a place to slaughter livestock under hygienic conditions.
"A modern abattoir so you will have no problem in treating your meat and getting it sold and the president says he will start, commence and complete the Pwalugu multipurpose dam,” he said.
