A leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kakra Essamuah has blamed opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he described as the payment of preventable judgement debts by government.
He alleged that the needless abrogation of contracts by some government officials in the erstwhile Kufuor administration contributed to the state incurring gargantuan judgement debts.
Lawyer Kakra Essamuah was reacting to the controversial Isofoton judgement debt saga on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday.
The blame and counter-blame between NDC and NPP about which party incurred the most judgement debts is far from over.
With the debate about the legitimacy of the GH¢51 million paid to businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome still pending in court, others like CP Construction (GH¢ 180,012,982), African Automobile Limited (GH¢ 2,500,000), MS Rockshell International (GH¢ 7,140,500); and the latest Isofoton ($1.3 million) have become an albatross on the neck of the government.
The NPP has accused the ruling party of condoning and conniving with its cronies under the guise of judgement debts to rob the state coffers - which the ruling party has vehemently denied.
Defending government’s payment of judgement debts, Kakra Essumuah noted that the NPP should be held accountable since according to him its actions and in-actions when in power incurred a lot of debts for Ghana.
He indicated that it is hypocritical on the part of the NPP members to accuse the NDC of paying judgement debts after their [NPP] actions caused them.
Lawyer Essumuah alleged that the NPP abrogated contracts without due diligence just to satisfy their cronies.
Citing the Isofoton case to corroborate his claim, the NDC Communications team member stated emphatically that the Spanish Company had a contract which the NPP which was unilaterally abrogated by the former Chief of Staff.
He urged Ghanaians to blame the NPP for driving the nation into economic abyss and keep them in opposition for good.
In a quick rebuttal, the Director of Communication of the NPP, Nana Akomea; co-panelist on the programme, advocated for a full disclosure on the Isofoton brouhaha to lay matter to rest.
He said the government has the power to arrest any member of the NPP believed to have erred in Isofoton case.
Nana Akomea maintained that the NPP followed all the procurement processes hence not culpable of any wrong doing.
