An extradition request sent to U.S. authorities in July 2024 has culminated in the arrest and detention of Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu in the United States.
According to a statement issued by Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu was arrested by U.S. Marshals on January 6 and is currently being held at the Nevada Southern Detention Centre in Pahrump, Nevada.
The Ambassador confirmed that the arrest was carried out specifically in response to Ghana's formal extradition request submitted several months earlier.

“I am reliably informed that acting on an extradition request sent to the U.S. authorities sometime in July 2024, U.S. Marshals arrested Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu and placed her in detention to await her day in court,” the statement said.
Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu has since remained in custody at the detention facility located at 2190 East Mesquite Avenue, as legal processes begin ahead of court proceedings in the United States.
While details of the extradition proceedings and the timeline for her court appearance have not been made public, the development marks a major step following the July 2024 request and reflects cooperation between Ghanaian authorities and U.S. law enforcement.
The statement did not provide further details on the next steps but confirmed that the arrest was the direct outcome of the earlier diplomatic and legal request.
