The Member of Parliament (MP) for Adenta, Mr Kojo Adu Asare, has said that it is the responsibility of the State, not that of a political party, to ensure that the descendants of the murdered overlord of Dagbon, Ya Na Yakubu Andani II, are given justice.
The murder of Ya Na and a number of his elders, according to the MP, was the result of the failure the State to live up to its mandate to protect the late overlord and his people.
The search for the killers of the Ya Na – a matter which became very political in the last elections – has so far proved to be a daunting task for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government which made an electoral promise to find those who perpetuated the crime.
The Andanis have on many occasions expressed disappointment and anger at the government's failure to honour its promise of bringing to book the killers of their king after almost three years of assuming power. The government has consistently maintained its resolve to ensure justice is done in the matter.
Mr Adu Asare, speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Monday, said a bi-partisan approach was needed if the Dagbon crisis were to be resolved and urged opposition members to desist from looking for faults with government’s position on the matter.
He maintained that it did not have to take the NDC or the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to give the people of Dagbon the justice owed them.
