The Appointments Committee of Parliament has recommended by majority decision the approval of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as the next Chief Justice of Ghana following his vetting on Monday, November 10.
Presenting the Committee’s report to Parliament on Thursday, the Chairman, Bernard Ahiafor, said the recommendation followed thorough deliberations after the vetting session.
According to the report, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie exhibited "outstanding competence, a deep understanding of the law, and a firm grasp of judicial ethics."
Mr. Ahiafor noted that the nominee responded to all questions with "professionalism, clarity, and intellectual rigor," underscoring his capacity to uphold the independence, integrity, and dignity of Ghana’s judiciary.

“The Committee is satisfied that the nominee possesses the requisite qualifications, judicial temperament, and commitment to constitutional values expected of a Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana,” the report stated.
Mr Ahiafor added that all the members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) were opposed and indicated from the onset from vetting that they are voting against the nomination of the Chief Justice nominee.
"The Committee therefore recommend to the House by majority decision the adoption of the report of the approval of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana."
The Committee’s recommendation now awaits consideration and approval by the full House.
