The National Youth Organiser of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) James Kwabena Bomfeh, popularly known as Kabila, has said he is ashamed commenting on the Amina case when the robbers who attempted to attack the Tamale-bound bus are still at large.
According to him, even though there is ample evidence for the police to pursue the armed robbers, they have focused all their attention on Amina and Frimpong’s claims.
On Friday February 25, Michael Frimpong, who was initially a suspect and was testifying in court as a prosecution witness in the Amina case accused some bigwigs in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) - Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Kennedy Agyapong and Yaw Osafo Marfo- as well as two others, Ken Attafuah and Adakabre Frimpong Manso of Adom FM of coaching him to corroborate Amina’s claims for an amount of GHS90, 000.
Amina Mohammed is being tried for publishing false news with the intent to cause fear and panic and deceiving a public officer when she stated that she was among passengers on a bus who were attacked by armed robbers and forced to have sex with each other including a father who was forced to sleep with his 14 year old daughter.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Kabila noted that even though it is important for the police to establish the truth in the claims of Amina and Michael Frimpong, security and safety of Ghanaians is very crucial.
He said if Amina had not broken the story, no one including the police would have known that such an incident happened adding that “they rather want to pursue that person and bring that person down what ever be the case”
He added that the police must ensure these criminals are identified and punished to avoid similar a incidence in the future.
The CPP Youth Organiser however questioned the credibility of Michael Frimpong and wondered why Frimpong was allowed to come to court and testify in the case.
He lauded the court for asking that Michael Frimpong be taken to a psychiatric hospital due to his conflicting accounts on the case.
Mr Kabila however blamed politicians for contributing to the escalating nature of the Amina case, adding “it is not worth it doing politics in this country”.
