Residents of New Obom, near Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region, have threatened to march to Accra to protest the Assembly's planned mass demolition exercise in the area.According to Chairman of the New Obom Road Residents Association, Stephen Ofosu Agyare, they will resist any attempt to pull their structures down. The Assembly claimed the land which was acquired by government, has been earmarked for the construction of some road projects including the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.Municipal Chief Executive, Dr. Nuhu Adams told Adom News the land was acquired from one Alhaji Barla Fawah after a thorough search was conducted to authenticate its true owner. The MCE said several efforts for the residents to produce proof of ownership of the land yielded no results. He said those occupying the land are doing so illegally, stressing that none of them would be paid compensation when the Assembly embarks on the demolition exercise. But Mr. Agyare claimed the residents acquired the land legally, adding that in 2005, a court placed injunction on the said Alhaji Fawah from further stepping on the land, following a litigation between him and the residents.
He alleged, Alhaji Fawah was made to swear to an affidavit to that effect until the final determination of the matter which is pending in court.
