One hundred pupils from nine different private and public primary schools in the Kumasi metropolis have received a confidence boost to pursue STEM careers at the KCCR Day of Science.
The "Day of Science" organized by the Kumasi Center for Collaborative Research in Tropical Medicine (KCCR) seeks to expose the pupils in the upper primary (4-6) to the activities of the Center and arouse their interest in science.
The children had fun touring the various labs of the KCCR and partaking in live experiments. A quiz competition was organized for them after the tour.

They were provided with branded t-shirts and bags donated by Soncis Bags.
"I learnt how the immune system protects itself from diseases,” a pupil, Blessing Kuutiero said.
A teacher at Ayigya M/A primary, Gloria Badu was grateful to the Center for the opportunity.
She appealed to benevolent individuals and organizations to help underprivileged schools with STEM materials for effective teaching and learning.
"Today was a great day for the pupils. To get the opportunity to see a real lab is something these children will always cherish.
"We hope this day doesn't end here but continues to get more pupils to take part in this activity," she said
“We teachers find it very difficult to teach the kids because we do not have text books, labs and other science materials to teach the kids.
"We therefore call upon sponsors and the organizers of this event to come to our aid with some text books, lab materials and other science and maths materials which will greatly help the kids," she added.

Charity Wiafe Akenten, a scientist at the KCCR called for sponsorship to sustain the event.
"Today was awesome and I can see the children had a lot of fun. This day is meant to let the kids have a feel of being a scientist and that is why we wish to keep this programme running.
“We therefore seek sponsorship to help keep this event. We hope to hold more of such events for the sake of the underprivileged kids and motivate them to keep their dream of becoming a scientist," she said
