Former Western North Regional Minister, Rocky Obeng, has defended former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, saying his message to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) grassroots is in their best interest.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr Obeng, who is part of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, stressed that the former lawmaker was only being honest with party members.
“All that Kennedy Agyapong is preaching to the party grassroots is for their benefit and in the interest of ordinary party members,” he said.
According to him, many in the NPP base had misplaced expectations, and it was important for leaders to be truthful with them.
“If you want to lead the people, then it's better you let them know your mind. Even the aspirants who have come out to declare believe that we need to apologise to the base of the party, and that’s what Ken Agyapong is yearning for,” he explained.
Mr Obeng argued that acknowledging mistakes from the 2024 elections and apologising to supporters would help the party rebuild.
“When we lose an election and Ken says we should apologise or advises us, he is just laying it bare and telling the truth, not disrespecting anyone,” he added.
Kennedy Agyapong, who placed second in the 2023 NPP presidential primaries, continues to wield considerable influence within the party, especially among the grassroots and business communities.
