Kwesi Nyantakyi, a member of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, says the NPP presidential aspirant is uniquely focused on tackling unemployment, describing the issue as a “national security crisis” in Ghana.

Speaking on the AM Show, Nyantakyi highlighted the scale of the challenge facing the country’s youth. “Between 15 and 25 years, about 32% of them are unemployed. Between 15 and 35 years, 22% of them are unemployed. Every year, our universities and tertiary institutions produce over 100,000 graduates who are also unemployed. Out of that, less than 15% of them are employed within one year,” he said.

Nyantakyi argued that the unemployment problem is not just an economic issue but one with wider societal implications.

“A lot of people go into social vices, unintended things that will happen and affect the country. So, the unemployment situation is very critical. And this is the man who has confronted unemployment headlong in his campaign,” he added.

The campaign team member noted that youth, who constitute a large portion of Ghana’s population, are especially vulnerable.

He cited statistics showing that young people aged 0 to 35 make up about 73% of the country’s population, underlining the urgency of addressing joblessness.

Kennedy Agyapong, a prominent and outspoken figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has frequently made youth employment a central theme of his bid to become the party’s flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections.

His team says this focus distinguishes him from other aspirants and resonates strongly with voters concerned about economic opportunities for young Ghanaians.
