Assembly members of the Ketu South municipality in the Volta region have rejected the president’s nominee for the Municipal Chief Executive position.
Mr. Pascal Lamptey polled 59 percent of the total votes cast but fell short of the 2/3rds majority required for him to be confirmed as the MCE.
Prior to the elections, the Volta regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo pleaded with the assembly members to endorse the President’s nominee to facilitate development in the area.
But JoyNews’ Ivy Sertordji reports that only 33 out of the 56 assembly members voted for Mr. Lamptey.
20 assembly members representing 36% voted against the president’s nominee while three votes representing five percent were rejected.
However, after consultations with the assembly members, according to Ivy, Mr. Lamptey will be given a second chance within ten days.
