Moved by the disunity among presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kofi Osei Ameyaw, one of the presidential hopefuls is organising a meeting in Accra on June 27 to heal the division.
A source close to Mr Osei Ameyaw, the Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman in the Eastern Region, told the GNA that Mr Ameyaw has sent letters inviting his fellow contestants to the meeting to deliberate on the need for cohesion in the party.
“Mr Osei Ameyaw believes that the competition should not be the basis for disunity and that all the aspirants seeking to gain the approval to lead the party in Election 2016 should focus on uniting all fronts and to strategise on winning power from the moribund administration of the National Democratic Congress,” the source said.
According to the source the move by Mr Osei Ameyaw confirms his leadership qualities to lead the party to victory in the 2016 general election, adding: “Osei Ameyaw’s is not only committed to the unity of the party but also thinking about the well-being of the NPP to remain a formidable force in the body politics of the country.”
The meeting, the source said, would discuss the need for the aspirants to demonstrate good leadership qualities and strive to seek party integration.
Those vying for the flag bearer slot include Second Deputy Speaker Joe Ghartey, Mr Addai Nimo, Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Mr Alan Kyerematen and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
