Ace Ghanaian broadcaster, Komla Dumor, has debunked a publication in the Al-Hajj newspaper which reports that President John Dramani Mahama has decided to appoint the hardworking BBC presenter as the Presidential Spokesperson.
The paper in its Monday, January 14 edition reported that: “Close sources at the seat of government, the Osu Castle disclosed to The Al-Hajj that, President Mahama’s decision to appoint the world-class Ghanaian broadcaster to the high office of spokesperson is due to Mr. Dumor’s stunning performance and achievement in the area of communication.”
The paper further indicated that: “By this appointment, the celebrated anchor will take over from current presidential spokesperson, John Abdulai Jinapor; who according to inside sources close to the President has been penciled for a deputy ministerial position in one of the ministries.”
But Mr. Dumor, host of Focus on Africa on BBC TV denied the story on his official facebook page. He wrote: “Wow, this news is a real surprise to me! Completely untrue.”
After being badgered by his fans as to whether the reports are true, Mr. Dumor wrote again:
“I will say this for the last time it is not true. I have not been asked. I will NOT be asked and when you see a story that contains whole sections from wikipedia you should know better. I am sure when you see me on air today, next month and next year some of you may still be asking me if it is true. Join me for the new studio launch on BBC today. Thanks.”
Komla Dumor's quick denial probably puts the speculations to rest for now.
