Spokesperson of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Listowell Burkason is confident the club will make a major impact in the CAF Champions League after their seven year hiatus. The Porcupine Warriors last participated in the CAF Champions League in 2006 where they placed third in a group comprising CS Sfaxien, Al Ahly and JS Kabylie. Kotoko also finished runners-up in the maiden CAF Confederation Cup in 2004 but earned a place among the elite clubs on the continent this year after emerging champions of the Glo Premier League 2011/2012 season. The Kumasi based club is to play Equatorial Guinea side Sony Ela Nguema this weekend in their first leg encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. Kotoko is yet to annex the Continental title since it was rebranded from the African Club Champions Cup to CAF Champions League in 1997. Listowel Bukarson has told JOY Sports the club is bent on impressing this time round. "It's been four years since we made it to Africa. We need to make an impact. In view of that the team is gearing up because we know our opponents can boast of a number of good players and are fine tuning in Cameroun currently, so we are not taking this game lightly at all," he said. Meanwhile, the National Sports Authority has confirmed to JOY Sports the Baba Yara Stadium which is undergoing its first major rehabilitation since it was constructed in 2008 would be ready by Sunday.
