President Kufuor has welcomed calls for his intervention as a mediator in the Ivorian crises.
The former President who is said to be a close friend of Laurent Gbagbo says he is willing to offer any support that will help resolve the crisis.
Senior Research fellow at the Legon Centre for International Affairs, Dr. Vladimir Antwi Danso is one of those who believe in the prowess of the Ghanaian statesman.
He wants ECOWAS and AU leaders to appoint him to lead mediation efforts.
In an exclusive interview with Joy News, Mr. Kufuor described the situation in Ivory Coast as unfortunate.
“But for the difficulties they fell into, they were leading the whole of West Africa, including Nigeria and us Ghana in terms of per capita income; even with their problems they are still the number one in cocoa production in the whole world; I think number three in coffee production in the whole of Africa.
“…I would wish they get out of the bind they are in,” he said.
He said he led the Carter Group to Ivory Coast in the first round of the election and will be happy to contribute in any capacity to restore peace in Ivory Coast.
He said his cordiality with the factions could help a lot in bringing back peace.
