The Kumasi police have arrested three women for allegedly stealing a day-old baby from a maternity home at Suame, Kumasi.
The three - Grace Osei, 59; Comfort Agyei Kyem, 57; and Cecilia Annor, 44 - were arrested after the police at the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit at Kumasi gathered intelligence that one of the suspects, Cecilia Annor, was having in her custody a baby which was not hers.
The Head of the Anti-Human trafficking Unit, ASP Regina Annor Mintah, told Accra-based Citi FM that Cecilia, a resident of Abuakwa, contacted Comfort, a typist at the Kumasi Children’s Hospital, for a child.
ASP Mintah explained that Comfort further contacted Grace Osei, owner of the Agyeiwaa Maternity Home in Suame, and the two (Cecilia and Comfort) went to take the child.
According to her, upon arrest, Cecilia confessed to having collected the baby from the maternity home.
The three are currently in police custody assisting in investigations.
