Embattled General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Kwabena Agyapong had to recoil and apologise to the party’s disciplinary committee following a petition and a possible suspension against him
This happened when he met the party’s disciplinary committee, Thursday, Joy News has learnt.
After three hours of meeting with the General Secretary and his petitioners, the committee is expected to present its decision to the steering committee of the party today.
Members of the steering committee, including the flagbearer of the party Nana Akufo-Addo, Acting Chairman Freddy Blay and Minority Leader in Parliament Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, have since Thursday afternoon been engaged in a crunch meeting as they await the decision of the disciplinary committee.
Joy News’ Kwakye Afreh-Nuamah who has been monitoring event at the NPP’s headquarters at Asylum Down, said Kwabena Agyapong is himself taking part in the steering committee meeting.
Four members of the party in November petitioned the party’s disciplinary committee to sanction the General Secretary accused of undermining party’s authority after his public rebellion against a party decision to indefinitely suspend the national chairman, Paul Afoko.
The petitioners are Chris Arthur, Former TESCON-KNUST President; Adreba Kwaku Abrefa Damoa, London; Kwabena Afum Dankwa, London; and Kwame Baffoe, NPP Regional Youth Organiser, Brong Ahafo.
They stated in their petition filed November 4, 2015 that:
“Kwabena Agyepong has rubbished, and keeps rubbishing the suspension of Afoko from his chairmanship. This in our view is an act of mischievous contempt for the authority of the Party as a whole, including its elders, its leadership, and its structures.”
