The largest privately-owned pet food manufacturer in Africa, Montego, has announced the expansion of its product range in Ghana through a new partnership with local distributor, Prestige Trade which has been importing and distributing pet products locally, since 2018.
Gregory Makina, Business Development Specialist at Montego, told Joy Business that “the choice for Ghana was informed by the sound economic and political environment and it’s being the headquarters of the African Continental Free Trade Area”.
“Ghana has become one of the most advanced pet food markets in Africa. Since launching the brand here in 2018, we have seen a big shift in consumer demand from premium to super premium products. Ghanaians are more interested in and have become increasingly aware of what goes into pet food products and we are excited to be part of this growing market, supplying the need for high-quality pet nutrition at an affordable price,” he stated.
The company’s flagship range of dog and cat food products, along with its sauces and canned wet foods are currently available in Ghana. With huge growth potential, Montego will expand its offering by bringing the Monty & Me and super-premium-Karoo range to the local market soon.
Tarek Wolley, Sales Manager at Prestige Trade, says: “Montego products are a really good fit for the Ghanaian market as they are produced in Africa for the African market. I’m excited about the wide range of products that are currently available in Ghana as well as the range of treats, grooming and supplement products that will be on shelves soon.”
“We recently bolstered our Montego sales team due to increased demand and we are very excited to grow further with this great African brand”, he added.
Montego is at the forefront of Africa’s growing pet food market and believes in sustainable manufacturing practices. Its state-of-the-art production facility and newly acquired manufacturing plant in South Africa, firmly positions the company as the biggest independent pet food manufacturer and the largest brand owner and distributor in Africa.
With a manufacturing capacity of up to 100 000 tons annually, Montego currently exports to 15 countries, 13 of which are on the African continent.
