Ms Joyce R. Aryee, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Chamber of Mines has called on residents in mining communities to stop speculation on activities of investors to attract more investors.
She said most investors could be scared from investing in the country when it persisted.
Ms Aryee made the call during an interaction with newsmen in Takoradi.
She noted that most people in their desire to receive more compensation from mining companies, construct mud houses, fishponds and plant already grown cocoa, oil palm trees and food crops overnight in such concessions.
She said rejection of these structures and farms resulted in tension between mining companies and the affected individual because payment of compensation should be long lasting and rewarding and not a one-time event.
Ms Aryee said such practices made land an expensive commodity to affect the country's mining sector.
She said the Sustainable Alternative Livelihoods Programmes (SALP) instituted by the Chamber was to create a conducive atmosphere, offer hope and relief to people affected by operations of mining companies.
