Late last week, Lil Nas X momentarily broke the internet with the release of his music video for “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name).”
In the sexed-up fantasy, the Grammy award-winning rapper slides down a pole, descending from heaven to hell, lap dances on Satan's back, before eventually snapping his neck.
Wild as it sounds (we recommend watching if you haven't done so already), Lil Nas X had his reasons for grinding on the devil in thigh-high stiletto boots.
Taking to Twitter he shared an open letter to his 14-year-old self regarding his homosexuality and the video, declaring “this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist. I’m pushing an agenda. But the truth is, I am. The agenda to make people stay the fuck out of other people’s lives and stop dictating who they should be."
Off the back of that conversation-starting music video, he just dropped a pair of devilish sneaks that are equally jaw-dropping.
Made in collaboration with MSCHF, the seven-person Brooklyn-based collective that brought us the Hermes-Birkenstock mashup “Birkenstocks” earlier this year, the “Satan Shoes” takes the form of a Nike Air Max ’97.

Each shoe is aptly numbered from 1 to 666, and will be available to buy for $1,018 in reference to Luke 10:18 “I Saw Satan Fall Like Lightning From Heaven.”
Details include an engraved bronze pentagram, an inverted-cross on the tongue pull tab, and custom red wool insoles with pentagrams on the heels.
What's most surprising about the Lil Nas X-designed kicks is that the sole air bubble in each pair, which is an intrinsic part of Nike's OG design, contains 60ml of ink and one drop of human blood.
Yep, that's right, human blood. (It's worth noting that Nike has played no part in the creation of said shoes.) Talk about dancing with the devil.

Naturally, the trainers were met with disapproval from high-profile political and religious figures, including evangelical pastor Mark Burns who claimed the trainers were “evil” and “heresy” on Twitter.
Lil Nas X clapped back by posting a video to his official YouTube account titled “Lil Nas X Apologises for Satan Shoe,” which cuts to his latest music video in a “sorry not sorry” move.
The shoes will release on March 29 at satan.shoes. Whose blood is it? We can't be sure. Will they be a sell-out hit? Definitely.
